A close up look at Ms. Xenikakis' healthy life style

Gateway P.S.’s physical education teacher has always been big on healthy living! But did you ever want to know about her healthy life? Well, we did. So we interviewed her. Continue reading to learn more!
Our reporter Fatima started with a question about the most important meal of the day: Breakfast! Ms. Xenikakis was asked what she usually has for breakfast. She said various different types of foods-but here were some of the most important ones {not to mention nutritious as well!}. Ms. Xenikakis stated that for breakfast, she usually begins with a glass of milk! Who has ever had milk for breakfast before? It is a delicious and nutritious way to start the day!Plus, it keeps you awake in class and gives you vitamin C. Ms. Xenikakis said that she also has something to eat as well. She likes cereal, oatmeal and toast. Cereal, toast and oatmeal benefit you by giving you whole grains and wheat! You need grains to be healthy!!! And are you one of the people who think that toast tastes bad? Well, add a bit of honey on it and it will be delicious! Ask Ms. Xenikakis, she sometimes has her toast with honey!! Honey is good for you as it gives you some nutrients, but don’t eat it all the time as the sugar in it is a “once in a while” food. Lastly, Ms. Xenikakis states that she ends her breakfast with a source of multi vitamins. Whether it is from a bar or gummy candy, it is a good addition to your breakfast. These are a couple of breakfast foods that Ms. Xenikakis eats. If you want to be as healthy as Ms. Xenikakis, use some of her ideas for your own breakfast!!!

Interview with Ms. Xenikakis
As we all know, Ms. Xenikakis is big on sports! So, have you ever wondered what she might snack on before playing a sport? Well Ms. Xenikakis told us that she needs to be fueled with healthy foods before she plays a sport so that she can perform well! So she told us that she a variety of snack ideas and that she does not mind telling us about them. So let’s begin with fruits and vegetables! Ms. Xenikakis said that by eating fruits and vegetables, you will be energetic during the game. Fruits and vegetables have vitamins in them that make have energy in a natural way, not in an unhealthy way like coffee or coke! Some ideas of fruits and veggies snack are soybeans, baby carrots, apple slices, etc. She also says that she eats protein before “gaming”. By protein, Ms. Xenikakis doesn’t mean hamburgers or hotdogs! She means something healthy, like a salad with meat bits, or a piece of grilled {not fried} chicken wrapped in a whole grain tortilla. Don’t dip this in ketchup or mayonnaise, as that will ruin its purpose!!!
Thirdly, we asked Ms. Xenikakis why she prefers to eat healthy instead of junk! She replied to us by saying that healthy foods give us nutrients that keep our bodies moving. This rule applies for all ages, but mostly for kids. Growing kids need to eat healthy because they need proper nutrients to grow properly. Plus, it is a well known fact that eating healthy helps you perform better at school! So if you want to get straight A’s, you know what you need to do! Also, eating healthy keeps your body shape {weight} in a good level. This does not imply that we all need to look like supermodels, but eating healthy would change our body shape into a healthier shape! So the next time you go grocery shopping, remember that hamburgers, chips, chocolates and other fast food are a once in a while food only. Although they are delicious, they are not nutritious!!! Lastly, we asked Ms. Xenikakis what she recommends students at Gateway Public School to eat so that they can maintain a healthy life style. She said a whole bunch of things! Firstly, she started with fruits and veggies. Dried mangoes, cucumbers and carrot sticks are really healthy and tasty. Ms. Xenikakis says that these are her favourites!!! You can even add other things to this list {for example orange slices, beans, etc}. You can eat these with sauces to improve the taste, but eating them raw will be healthier!!! Are you a sucker for chips! I am! But as we know, chips are not healthy for us! But Ms. Xenikakis has some snack ideas that is partially chips or even similar to potato chips, but healthy at the same time!!! Crackers, baked crisps and rice chips are all healthy alternatives! They give you the taste of chips, but many other nutrients as well. There are also the classic healthy snacks that Ms. Xenikakis recommends. Yogurt and Granola Bars! These two things are a children’s’ favourite choice as they come in many different flavours {and all of those flavours are healthy! Who doesn’t like a nice blueberry yogurt with a cherry granola bar? All of these ideas Ms. Xenikakis suggested are healthy and delicious!
